Who Is a Candidate for CEREC® Crowns?

crowns Gilroy, CA

CEREC® crowns are a great way to restore the health, function and appearance of a damaged or decayed tooth. They are different than traditional crowns because they can be created in a single dental visit, whereas traditional crowns can take several weeks to more than a month to create.

How a CEREC® crown can help

It is helpful to have an understanding of who the ideal candidate for CEREC® crowns is. In general, anyone who is in need of a dental crown but does not want to wait several weeks to receive a permanent crown should consider how CEREC® crowns can benefit them. The following are four more specific ways in which CEREC® crowns can help.

Repair chips and cracks

There are many ways in which a tooth may become cracked, including by grinding teeth at night, biting down on hard substances (ice, hard foods, etc.) and from a blow to the mouth. CEREC® crowns can repair chips and cracks the same way a traditional crown can, which makes individuals with damage a good candidate. They work by encircling a damaged tooth to protect it from further damage. This makes the tooth stronger and can ensure any symptoms due to the chip or crack is treated.

Support a decayed tooth

Dentists can also use CEREC®  crowns to cover and support a tooth that has been damaged by tooth decay. For minor tooth decay, the dentist may be able to simply place a dental filling. However, when treating more severe tooth decay, a filling may not be enough. If this is the case, then the dentist may be able to use a CEREC®  dental crown to support the tooth and prevent future concerns from developing. Individuals that have any form of tooth decay may make a good candidate for a CEREC® crown.

Restore a worn-down tooth

Teeth can become worn down from teeth grinding at night. If this occurs, then it can expose deeper layers of teeth, cause teeth to crack or chip and leave teeth looking flat and unattractive. A CEREC® crown can restore the size, shape and overall appearance of a tooth that is damaged by teeth grinding, making sufferers of bruxism great candidates for the procedure. Of course, it is also important to address the cause of the concern as well.

Cover a discolored tooth

CEREC® crowns are commonly used for improving function and oral health, but they can also be used for cosmetic reasons as well. Individuals that have a tooth that is severely discolored or experiencing cosmetic complications (uneven, too short, etc.), may benefit from a CEREC® crown, as it may be a way to improve the appearance of the tooth.
