When to Choose Invisalign® Over Traditional Braces

Invisalign Gilroy, CA

In recent years, Invisalign® clear aligners have become a popular way to straighten crooked teeth and repair bite dysfunctions. Traditional metal braces are no longer the only way to restore your smile. As you decide which method makes the most sense for you, it is helpful to consider the benefits that this treatment offers. Your dentist can also discuss how this process works.

A description of Invisalign

These aligners are clear plastic trays that resemble the mouthguards that people use for teeth whitening. They fit over the teeth, putting pressure on them over time. Gradually, this moves the teeth into the right locations in the mouth. Patients who wear them will get a new set every couple of weeks at the dentist’s office. Before getting the first trays, the dentist will take X-rays and 3D impressions of the person’s mouth. Using these pictures, the dentist will develop a treatment plan.

Choose aligners for a faster treatment

Reviving a smile should not have to take years. Most people do not want to have an appliance in their mouth long. Fortunately, Invisalign does not usually take as long as metal braces. Some patients start to see results in as few as a couple of months. The total treatment time is ordinarily around 18 months, though it can be even shorter depending on the person’s needs and the severity of the issues.

Choose aligners for an invisible solution

Metal braces can do a good job of straightening teeth. The treatment has been effective for decades. One of the biggest challenges, however, is that braces are noticeable to everyone and readily stand out. This can be difficult for people who are self-conscious about appearance and may struggle with self-image. Invisalign aligners are practically invisible. Aesthetically, this is the right option, especially for people who do not want others to know they are wearing the trays.

Choose aligners for good oral hygiene

Picking Invisalign over braces could come down to oral health too. People who have metal braces must be vigilant about brushing and flossing. These activities are vital for everyone to promote healthy, strong teeth and gums. However, it is less difficult to achieve these goals while wearing clear aligners. Food gets trapped under the brackets and wires of metal braces. Aligners are removable, so the wearer can take them out at mealtime.

Choose aligners for comfort

With Invisalign, people can avoid many of the irritations that braces cause. Braces can rub against the gums and cheeks, causing soreness and bleeding. Clear aligners do not pose this issue. Patients who wear them should get accustomed to them within a few weeks. Patients also do not have to wear them 24 hours a day.

A clear decision

It should be apparent why Invisalign is a viable way to straighten teeth. Adults enjoy this method for many reasons. If you are ready to do something about your crooked teeth or other cosmetic flaws, talk to your dentist. You can get started on your treatment now and have a brand-new smile to show off.
