10 Signs of Good Oral hygiene
Looking for some beneficial information on good oral hygiene? Good idea. Taking good care of your oral health means that you are also taking good care of your general health. In order for you to truly be healthy you need to not only brush and floss your teeth a minimum of two times a day, you also need to see a dentist about every six months so they can perform a healthy mouth evaluation. Just like the doctor’s office, the dentist’s office is somewhere you should also be visiting on a regular basis in order to make sure that your health is as good as it can be.
According to the American Dental Association, an estimated 100 million Americans do not go to a dentist each year even though regular dental examinations and good oral hygiene can prevent most dental disease.
10 Signs of Good Oral hygiene
The following are 10 signs that allow someone to know when they are in good oral hygiene.
1. The gums do not bleed when brushing or flossing
Healthy gums do not bleed. If the gums are bleeding after brushing or flossing, then it may be a sign of other oral health issues.
2. The gums should be a nice pink color
If the gums are red or pale in color, then there could be a chance of gum disease or anemia being present.
3. Pleasant smelling breath is present
Harmful bacteria can cause bad breath. When someone’s mouth odor is pleasant, it means that their oral hygiene is in good standing. If the patient has chronic bad breath that does not go away with brushing, then it is the sign of an oral health issue that needs treatment.
4. Smooth feeling teeth mean clean teeth
When teeth are smooth and clean it means they are receiving proper brushing. It is important to at least brush the teeth twice a day and floss once a day.
5. Having teeth that are not sensitive
When teeth are sensitive it can mean that there are some mouth issues taking place, requiring a dental appointment.
6. The tongue is pink, firm and moist
Any lingering sores on the tongue are an urgent sign to visit us for an examination.
7. The teeth are strong and do the job they are supposed to do
Weak teeth that hurt when in use or are sensitive to varying temperature in food/drinks can mean that there is an infection or decay.
8. There are no signs of gum disease present
If you feel anything off about your teeth that does not go away after a day or two, call us for an appointment.
9. There are no signs of smoking effects
Signs or effects of smoking can include stained teeth, bad breath and other breathing issues.
10. A nice, bright beautiful smile
Discoloration is a sign of plaque buildup and a lack of oral hygiene. Certain foods and beverages can also stain teeth without the proper care.
